HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MEMBER OF ENCOMPASS?
I have been a member since my sophomore year so this will be my third year.
WHAT IS A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE THAT YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I have many public health issues that I’m passionate about. The one that is on top of my head though is decreasing cost of healthcare. It’s crazy how many Americans and even people around me put off care because they don’t want bills. I think that truly impedes our health system from becoming the best it can be. It’s great we’ve advanced treatments, but how useful are they if no one can afford them.
IN WHAT WAY HAS ENCOMPASS IMPACTED YOU?
I remember being a freshman and was so excited to apply to ENCompass. I actually added an event to my calendar to check when the application opened. ENCompass has opened my eyes to how food insecurity and income inequality affects everyone, not just the low-income. It made me more passionate about advocating for lower health care costs and affected my career plans in the future.
ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ANY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS? IF SO, WHAT ARE THEY?
I’m involved in SPINX Senior Honor Society, Public Health Leadership Council, Asian, Pacific-Islander, Desi, American Cohort, and Vietnamese Students Association
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS?
My future plants are to apply to medical school and pursue an MD-MPH degree focused on community health and epidemiology. I plan to specialize in either cardiology or oncology and focus on community wide prevention tactics and improved screening at earlier stages so we can reduce the burden of disease. I would really love to work with under served populations whether it be in urban or rural areas.
