People of ENCompass: Sierra MacEachron

What's your major and year?

I am a 2nd year studying Public Health with a specialization in Public Health Sociology.

How long have you been a member of ENCompass?

This is my second year in ENCompass.

What is a public health issue that you are passionate about?

I am really passionate about many public health issues like health disparities and food insecurity, but my work at Equitas Health has led me to focus more on sexual/reproductive health, as well as HIV awareness.

In what way has ENCompass impacted you?

ENCompass has given me the opportunity to have invaluable first-hand experience with people in the Columbus community who I otherwise would never get the chance to interact with or hear their stories. I learn so much from our clients about the issues that Columbus really faces.

Are you involved in any other organizations? If so, what are they?

In addition to being VP of Outreach for ENCompass, I work as a sexual health program assistant for the Ohio HIV/STI Hotline at Equitas Health. I am also currently in Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, do research with the College of Public Health, and am part of the STEP program on campus.

What are your future plans?

After graduation, I hope to volunteer with the Peace Corps. Then, I would like to pursue a graduate degree in Epidemiology and make a difference in the world of public health.

What's your favorite quote?

“I raise up my voice - not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard… we cannot succeed when half of us are held back.” -Malala Yousafazi
